How Much Sleep Do You Have to Sleep at Night to Be Happy the Next Day

It’s no secret that sleep significantly affects our mood and performance the next day. But how many hours of sleep are best? Jawbone’s study offers specific recommendations.

The company analyzed sleep and recorded the moods of its hundreds of thousands of UP users (over 80 million nights of sleep! 5.6 million human-reported mood records) and found that the “right” amount of sleep for better mood was between 8 and 9. 5 o’clock at night. Those who received this amount woke up happier than those who slept less or more hours.

Other interesting finds:

  • When people slept an hour more than usual, they woke up 5% happier.
  • Losing 2 hours of sleep had a stronger effect on mood than 2 hours of sleep.

It’s different, of course, and we might be different in how much sleep we need . However, if you are like the average person in this study, you can aim for consistent 8-9.5 hours of sweet sleep every night.
