Some conference calls can seem endless . To drown out the chatter and get started, avoid scheduling calls during slow, wide-open times during the day.

As with any meeting, if you schedule a conference call for an hour, attendees will likely find a way to fill that hour. You can help with this by shortening the time frame and inviting fewer people, but John Boynott of Inc. suggests scheduling a call just before other events. If everyone goes to lunch at noon, don’t make an appointment at 11. Schedule an appointment at 11:30 or 11:45. Everyone wants to dine so that everyone understands the time better and feels a little pressure to embrace everything more efficiently. Meetings shouldn’t be a waste of time if you plan them well.
