Slightly Reduce the Load on the Laundry Using the “Clothes Purgatory” Section
Not every garment needs to be washed after one wear. Creating a “clothes purgatory” zone in your closet or dresser can help you keep track of what you’ve worn before and keep things from piling up on the floor.
Have you ever put on a sweater, thrown it on the floor, and then decided to wash it simply because it was lying on the floor? The clothing purgatory area, as Nancy Mitchell of Apartment Therapy explains, is where you have to store your clothes, which may only be somewhat dirty:
… well, you know, a shirt that you only wore for half a day and that you could probably put on again one night, or a sweater that doesn’t need to be dry cleaned yet? What you need is what I have called the “garment purgatory”: a space to hang out between garments while their fate is determined.
Instead of washing a sweater that you don’t quite need yet, you hang it in the purgatory closet for clothes. Now you no longer have clothes that litter your living space, and you can put them on at least one more time before washing. You can significantly reduce the amount of wash done by re-wearing pants, sweaters, jackets, or similar items; and the arrangement of a small purgatory will help you with this.
