Perfectly Cook a Giant Steak With Four Empty Tuna Cans

There is nothing better than a juicy steak cooked over hot coals, but cooking a giant piece of meat to the perfect medium rare has always seemed like a task best left to the pros. Luckily, one of these pros ( Seamus Mullen ) is willing to share his secret to making giant cow chunks: four empty tuna cans.

In the video above (and in the companion article at the link below) you go into the details of the process, but tuna cans play a critical role in keeping your steak juicy and cooked evenly. (Look for non-BPA-free, such as Trader Joe .) After frying all six sides of his steak, Mullen moves the hot coals one half of the grill, creating direct and indirect heat spots. Then he fills four empty tuna cans with red wine and chopped garlic, then places a nest of fresh herbs on top of them, on which the steak remains on the grill for the remaining time. This entire setup is mounted above an indirect heating zone, allowing the red wine to soar the juicy beast until it reaches the desired core temperature, resulting in a very aromatic mountain of meat. Check it out above to see how it works.
