Back up Your Music Before Disconnecting Apple Music

Apple Music’s deep integration with iOS and iTunes is handy, but that’s not all. In Loop, Jim Dalrymple details how shutting down Apple Music in iTunes also wiped out about 4,700 songs in his iTunes library.

After a series of troubles with Apple Music, Dalrymple decided to cut his losses and turn it off. When he did this, he found that about 4,700 songs were missing:

As if all that weren’t enough, Apple Music gave me another blow to the head. I turned off Apple Music over the weekend, and it took big chunks of the music I bought with it. Unfortunately, many songs were added from CDs many years ago, which I no longer have access to. Looking at my old iTunes Match library, before Apple Music, I am missing about 4,700 songs. For now, I just don’t care, I just want Apple Music to disconnect from my devices.

So, if you are using Apple Music, chances are that you will lose some songs on shutdown, so make sure you have the latest backup before doing this.
