Practice Job Appraisal Tests to Boost Your Career and Job Search

Most organizations with more than 100 employees rely on assessment tests (such as aptitude and psychology tests) when hiring from outside. Take these tests knowing the questions you might be asked and by practicing before your next interview.

The Harvard Business Review notes that assessment tests are used by employers not only to confirm that you have the necessary skills, but also to assess things like your emotional intelligence and work ethic. Here are some sample questions:

Just like getting better scores on the SAT, practicing performance tests can improve your score on them. HBR recommends using the GRE textbooks to hone your reasoning skills, and online psychology and situational judgment tests to cover other personality traits that employers are evaluating.

You can also ask the recruiter or someone you know who was interviewed at the company about the types of tests used by the company you are applying to.

Since many of these assessments are used for middle and senior executives, improving your test-taking skills in these areas can be an investment in your career.
