Car travel can be a worthy alternative to expensive vacations. But gas prices can make your trip surprisingly expensive, depending on how far away the destination city is. Smarter Travel has compiled a list of road trips from 13 major cities that will cost you just one bottle of gasoline.

Most of these trips are less than 150 miles, so most of the cars back and forth need to be taken around by the tank. Of course, your mileage will vary depending on what type of vehicle you have, how large the tank is, and where exactly you are leaving from the city of departure.
