Find Out If You Will Get a Free Upgrade to Windows 10 With This Flowchart

There has been a lot of misunderstanding about who will get the free updates to Windows 10 on July 29th , but this flowchart should make it simpler and easier to determine if you do.

This chart, inspired and expanded from this original Amit Agarwal chart , explains everything so you know exactly where you are. If you have a legitimate copy of Windows 7, 8, or 8.1, you are ready to receive a free update and can reserve it now. If you’re running a preview version of Windows 10 and it was installed under a valid Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 license, you also have access to a free update. If you’re running anything earlier than Windows 7, or installed a beta version of Windows 10 preview without a previous license, you’ll have to shell out $ 119 for the standard version or $ 199 for the Pro version. However, you can continue to use other beta versions of Windows 10 no matter what.

And if Microsoft changes its mind again, we’ll be sure to update this flowchart as soon as possible. [Hint for Digital Inspiration ]
