These Cheese Chips Are the Most Delicious One-Ingredient Holiday Snack Ever
Cocktails may be the best part of a cocktail party, but snacks come second. But no one wants to spend hours preparing holiday snacks by the stove. You don’t have to do that with this Fine Cooking Cheesy Crisp Recipe.
Cheese platters, meat trays and cheese trays are all great, but there is something special about homemade snacks. Cheese chips, or “freeco” if you prefer, creates a great wow factor, all with a little prep and just one ingredient. All you need is some hard cheese and a little warmth, and in a few minutes you have a delicious, chic snack perfect for an elegant cocktail party (or watching Netflix in your pajamas).
To prepare cheese chips, simply bake or fry the grated hard cheese pieces of any that appeal to you to taste, until they begin to brown. If you want to take it to the next level, you can add ½ teaspoon of your favorite spice or seasoning (cumin, fennel, chili powder: these are all very good). You can find full, slightly more detailed instructions from Fine Cooking (for roasting) or Martha Stewart (for roasting) below.
Serve with a tray of seasonal fruits or vegetables and get ready to receive many compliments.
