Be More Charismatic With the “two Second Rule”

People love getting their word out, but charisma is about how you act , not what you have to say. You can be more charismatic in a conversation by always waiting two seconds before responding to something.

Good conversation includes what happens during a tennis match, listening actively, and avoiding being rude at all costs. No matter how interesting you think your comment is, interrupting someone else’s comment to post it will only diminish your liking. To help you avoid interruptions and boost your charisma, Stephen Andrews of Dumb Little Man tells you to follow the “two-second rule”:

… try to count two seconds in your head before responding to what people are saying. At first, you will notice that often people do not finish speaking. They just stopped. By waiting two seconds, you allow them to finish their thought. Instead of interrupting the other person, you express genuine interest and attention to what they are saying. Second, waiting two seconds creates a moment of tension between the end of their thought and your response. Since most people respond immediately, waiting for two seconds is an expression of confidence and strength.

People love to know that they are actually being heard, and a short pause shows them that you listened and thought about it before you did anything else. Remember that charisma and sympathy do not depend on how smart or talkative you are, but on how you behave and communicate with others. Make others feel valuable and you will be valuable.
