This Infographic Shows the Best Times to Visit National Parks in the United States.

The National Park is a great summer vacation option. The problem is that parks can get overcrowded during high season. But during the low season, you may encounter bad weather and not get the same experience. This infographic will tell you when is the best time to visit the 23 national parks, taking into account the number of visitors, weather and prices.

Based on a selection of contributors from their national parks guides, Lonely Planet has estimated the best months to visit national parks in the US and Canada, and you can check out the infographics yourself at the link below.

They found that, overall, October was the best month to visit.

Why October? It is a combination of several factors that together make the so-called “ mid-season ” – the golden mean between high and low seasons – a favorite time to travel and explore nature for many experienced hikers:

Fewer crowds: The kids are back at school after summer break and the ski season hasn’t started yet.

Weather: Temperatures in desert regions have dropped to reasonable levels and most mountainous regions have not yet hit the cold season. October is the best time for Indian summer, so don’t be surprised if you’re lucky with unusually high temperatures.

Cost: Low housing prices have become popular in many areas to attract more travelers as crowds thin.

Foliage and Wildlife: Not only areNew England maples putting on a show, trees are changing color across the continent. Aspen, poplar, oak, willow, dogwood and much more – all of these look best in autumn. October is also the rutting season for many of North America’s large mammals (elk, elk, antelope, bison), so it’s a great time to see wildlife and sometimes impressive mating behavior.

But of course this is just general. If you want to know the best time to visit a particular park, see if there is one in the picture from the link below.
