Create Your Own Outdoor Shower to Enjoy the Fresh Air
An outdoor shower may seem like a bit of a luxury, akin to a jacuzzi or sauna, but it is also much more practical. With some woodworking and plumbing know-how, you can build a home in your own backyard in time for those hot summer days.
An outdoor shower provides quick relief from hot and sultry days, and there is something liberating about bathing in the open (semi-indoor) air.
The video above shows how they built a freestanding outdoor shower using cedar planks for the structure and panels, pressure treated lumber for the base (to prevent decay) and 1 x 1 concrete blocks for the bases. Other details include a sliding door with pocket-style door hardware and various decorative plugs to keep moisture out of the end fibers.
The following video explains a little more about design and layout to balance the need for openness while maintaining privacy.
They suggest avoiding any rigid connections to the plumbing, as an outdoor wooden shower can move and expand. They use a splitter from the nearest garden hose for their water source, avoiding the clutter of connecting to the home’s plumbing system.
If you’re looking for a simpler solution, you can buy a freestanding PVC outdoor shower that also connects directly to the hose, asdemonstrated by Antonio Sabato Jr.
