Create a DIY Mud Bench With a Secret Vault

Mushrooms are great for storing coats, shoes, and other items right outside the door, but they’re not exactly furniture friendly. This provides a great opportunity to put your woodworking skills to the test and build a custom shoe bench that makes use of the entire space.

Ana White is a Sketchup pro, who she uses in the video above to showcase her DIY entryway seat assembly.

She used 1×12 1/4 “plywood to build the storage shelves, which she left 1/2” long so she had some wiggle room when setting it up in a not-so-square space. She then added clipping to the top edge of the shelves and extended it to the back of the space.

The empty space behind the shoe storage is closed by hinged doors that fold up. This place can be used to store tall boots and umbrellas, as well as anything you don’t want to show in open drawers.

Ana wrote a complete blog post about this project, which includes a list of cutouts, required tools and materials, and complete assembly instructions below.
