It’s hard to fall asleep when your mind is at full speed, but you can clear your mind of ideas and worries by making a deal with yourself.

If you can’t stop thinking about tomorrow’s work, or are just too excited about the idea you thought of, you need to calm down so you can suck a little. Author Naomi Goodlet of Pick the Brain invites you to promise yourself that you will come back to your thoughts later:

If you notice a recurring idea or thought, try to make a deal with your mind by telling it, “I promise I’ll take the time tomorrow to give this thought the time and attention it deserves, but for now I need to get some sleep.”

Just make sure you actually deliver on your promise. If you don’t, the next time you will find it difficult to let go of your thoughts. You can even write down your thought so you know it will be exactly where you left it. Relax your mind and you can finally sleep .
