Reach Your Goals Faster by Reviewing and Repeating Habits Every Three Days

The more time you spend thinking about how best to approach something, the less time you will have to learn how to best suit you. You must learn from failure so that you can fail faster .

Developing habits that will help you achieve your goals is a lot like developing software: you don’t know what doesn’t work until you test it. Leo Babauta of Zen Habits recommends that you take care of the bug fixes after you submit your new habit:

Make it as easy as possible to get real information. Follow the habit for just 3 days – this is a repetition of your habit method. Don’t aim for 30 days, just 3. After 3 days of doing this habit, do a 2-minute review: how did the plan go? Did you stick to this habit every day? What worked? What was in the way?

You now have data that you can use to fix what needs to be corrected. Stop wondering what is the best way to do this and find out what it is. If your workout was too hard, tone it down a bit. If you can’t forget to save money yourself, automate that. It is better to know what needs to be fixed than to know nothing at all. Submit your product, figure out what’s wrong, and fix it. Over time, these habits will become bulletproof.
