Most Popular BitTorrent Client: ΜTorrent
BitTorrent is a great and easy way to transfer large files quickly, but your downloads are as good as the client you’re using. Last week, we asked you to list your favorites and then reviewed the top five BitTorrent clients . We are now back with the winner of our poll and your community favorite.
The most controversial candidate took first place this week: µTorrent , with more than 42% of the vote, took first place. Much of the discussion around this revolved around the turn of events when µTorrent was acquired by BitTorrent, Inc: an event that led to in-app advertising, bitcoin mining, and other adware and bloated programs that come with your installation, and so on. The other of you praised the client for being fast and flexible, offering the best feature set and best user experience you can get, getting the job done, and giving you the option not to install said bloated software and disable advertising if you like. j. Those of you who are aware of the problem have suggested that you simply run the old version of µTorrent to avoid its ads and malware. Either way, there is no doubt that it was controversial and popular.
Second place and 21% of the vote went to Transmission , a cross-platform, lightweight client thin enough to run even on a Raspberry Pi. Many of you have touted it as your preferred feature-rich alternative to µTorrent, while others have praised it for its merits, saying it’s reliable, has easy-to-use remote control options, and more. Third place went to qBittorrent , the number one open source and free software successor. QBitTorrent is another cross-platform alternative designed with open source, open source and feature-comparable features in mind, with enough bells and whistles to get the job done. He received just under 19% of the vote. Fourth place and just under 11% of the votes went to commentator-favorite Deluge , another cross-platform tool with a huge library of plugins to complement its already impressive feature set. Rounding off the list is the relative newcomer Tixati , which offers a fast, streamlined feature set in an easy-to-use package.
