Nine Simple Tricks to Get the Most From Your Microwave

The microwave oven is one of the most versatile tools in the kitchen. It can warm up leftovers, make squeezing lemons easier, and even revive dried mascara. Here are nine of our favorite microwave oven tricks in video.

It’s been a long time, but at Lifehacker we finally have a real dedicated video team, which means you’ll start watching a lot more videos on these parts. We’re starting with a new series called Quick Hacks, in which we take simple, two- or three-step tips (many of which Lifehacker veterans will learn from yesteryear) and showcase them in video. They will appear on quickhacks.lifehacker.com and on our YouTube channel separately for easy sharing on Facebook and Twitter, but we will also publish them as compilations (as shown above) on the Lifehacker home page.

So, without further ado, watch our first Quick Hacks video for the following tips:

  1. Microwave crispy bacon with a bowl
  2. Decrystallize honey in the microwave
  3. Cook the sunny side or poached eggs in the microwave
  4. Get more juice from lemons and other citrus fruits
  5. Steaming vegetables in the microwave
