This Video Shows You How to Master the Perfect Form of Push-Ups.

Push-ups are a basic exercise that we all need to master . Getting in the right shape is very important, and this video provides 3 quick tips on how to get it right.

BuiltLean’s Mark Perry says you can start by practicing air push-ups (you don’t even need to do push-ups yet – easy!). Then remember that the only part of your body that you have to move during push-ups is your arms. Finally, keep your shoulders away from your ears:

Keep your shoulders away from your ears to protect your shoulder joint and maximize strength. People often pull their shoulders towards their ears when doing push-ups.

So how do you make sure your shoulders are properly locked and your latissimus dorsi contracted?

Thinking about pulling the floor towards you as you lower yourself to the ground and twist your arms outward will help engage your lats and stabilize your shoulder. Push-ups are a full-body exercise, not a chest exercise!

When your latissimus muscle under the shoulder contracts, it immediately pulls your shoulder back and down from your ears, making your highly mobile shoulder much more stable. I want to thank Chris McGrath of Movement First for this advice.
