Check the Doneness of the Cabbage With a Cake Tester
You can use kale for more than just kale salad – for example, fry half a head in a skillet for a crunchy, filling side dish. You can actually check the doneness of kale with a cake tester.
Once you think the cabbage is done, slowly stick the cake tester into the leaves. If it moves easily towards the center, the cabbage is ready to serve. You can see this technique in the video above at about 2:30.
