Use Police “safe Zones” for Safer Transactions on Craigslist

Craigslist is a great place to find inexpensive items, but it can also be dangerous . To combat crime, police departments across the country offer “safe zones” for Craigslist transactions.

Craigslist recently updated its security page to encourage users to exchange “high-value” transactions at local police stations. NPR says this change came after several stations created secure zones for such transactions. Police are on duty in these areas, and there is usually round-the-clock surveillance.

Above, Fox News has posted a map of several stations that have officially opened these zones. But your area may not be on the map. If so, just take Craigslist’s advice and meet with the seller or buyer at or at least near your local police station.

If this is not possible, at least take proper precautions to stay safe and not be fooled .

Update : A reader pzollman also informed us about SafeTradeStations.com , a site where you can find local police stations offering safe areas for transactions.
