In Fact, You Can Fall Asleep Faster If You Try to Stay Awake.

When you are exhausted, there is nothing worse than lying in bed desperately trying to sleep, but without success. You may be luckier if you dive into dreamland if you try to stay awake instead.

In this video from YouTube channel In59seconds, Professor Richard Wiseman of the University of Hertfordshire explains a recent study that looked at insomnia and falling asleep. The University of Glasgow study, led by Niall M. Brumfield, looked at two different groups of people with insomnia and tracked their sleep patterns. One of the groups was asked to go to bed with open eyes without a TV, computers, telephones, they were only allowed to blink, and basically asked to try to stay awake as long as possible. This group managed to fall asleep faster each night. The next time you have trouble sleeping, sit back, stop moving, and try to keep your eyes open. You may find that trying to stay awake is much more exhausting than focusing all your energy on falling asleep. There are many ways to make it easier to fall asleep , so do your best not to waste those precious hours.
