Don’t Give Your Social Security Number to the Doctor (If You Can)

Doctor’s offices are not the first place to think about data breaches, but that doesn’t mean they are protected. If the healthcare professional’s office asks for your Social Security number, consider skipping it.

When someone gets your Social Security number , it becomes a pain to clean up your life. This is usually asked by doctors to track you down if you don’t pay the bill. Consumer Reports advises to just skip this part of the form. The admins probably won’t notice (in my experience, they only doubted it once). If they ask why you skipped this part of the form, explain your concerns about identity theft and they will probably understand.
