How Tinder Helped Me Find the Best Vacation Bars

We all know Tinder is the perfect communication companion, but it turns out it’s also a pretty killer way to ask about the best bars and restaurants in town when you’re on vacation.

We were in Vancouver with some friends last weekend and had no luck finding places to hang out. We tried to talk to the bartenders, gatekeepers and of course we looked for seats on Yelp, but nothing worked out so well. So on a whim, I downloaded Tinder, quickly created a profile, set the search radius to within three miles, and started swiping right on anyone who seemed like a like-minded person to me.

In a few minutes I had my first match. Nice punk girl. I sent my first message: “Hello! It’s super random, but I come from Seattle looking for some punk bars in the city, suggestions? ” She quickly continued, “Where are you now?” With a little banter and she gave me a list of walking spots that were significantly better than what the internet suggested. Check.

The same thing worked with several other people, and I soon had a ready-made list of bars, restaurants, and places to check all over the city, including one place that didn’t even have a sign, so I had no chance. what i just happened to this. This turned out to be one of the coolest places I have been to.

Obviously, your luck could change, and several people were annoyed that I (scandalously?) Used the app while clearly out of town. But it seems that the main thing is to say politely and clearly what you are looking for. This is where the classic adage “write the message you want to receive” works (and even though it costs, I would repay the service if someone did it to me). These connections (and new friends!) Can of course happen in parallel, but touching the collective mind of Tinder was a quick way to find local places that don’t suck because, unlike other options , it’s a service that people actually use. (and answer quickly further).
