Access to a Secret Diagnostic Page Built Into Your Cable Modem

When you’re trying to troubleshoot your cable modem, your cable company will likely blame your computer. Many modems have a built-in diagnostic page that lets you know what is wrong with them.

DSL Reports have created a master list of these pages. This is usually http://192.168.100.1 . On this page, most of the companies include:

  • Signal levels
  • Uptime – how long has your connection been connected
  • Errors such as DHCP failure or fixed / uncorrected blocks
  • Reboot the modem remotely.

If you can read the cable company’s support page it will give them key information to help solve your problem. This is useful if you have intermittent connection problems.
