Maximizing Productivity: Finding Out the Best to Work On

Everyone wants to make the most of their time. The first step towards achieving this goal is learning how to better accomplish the tasks that are set for us, but the final step, according to Seth Godin, is to stop working on someone’s to-do list and instead work on your own contribution.

In Godin’s Productivity Pyramid, you improve your productivity step by step, from improving your skills to delegating authority and investing in technologies that make you more efficient, and even inventing new technology.

However, the last step is the most important one:

The last step that eludes many of us is to figure out where to work better. Make your own list, don’t just react to someone else’s.

It turns out that the most productive thing we can do is stop working on someone else’s to-do list and find more useful input instead. This is what separates great organizations from good and great careers from unsuccessful ones.

This is a good incentive to continue your favorite projects.
