These Categories Will Help You Remember Which Fruits Are Low in Sugar.

Whether you’re on a diet or trying to manage diabetes, knowing the sugar content of fruits can be helpful. If you find it difficult to memorize fruits individually, try memorizing these categories instead.

According to diabetes information, you can usually sort fruits into one of five categories to gauge their sugar content. While there are some differences between individual fruits – and if you are dealing with something more serious, like diabetes, you should always check to be sure – these categories can help you approximately with this. In ascending order of sugar content:

  • Berries: raspberries, blackberries and cranberries.
  • Spring / summer fruits: peaches, nectarines, melons and apricots.
  • Autumn-Winter Fruits: apples, citrus fruits, plums, pears.
  • Tropical fruits: pineapple, pomegranate and mango.
  • Dried fruits: dates, raisins and prunes.

Of course, this list is not exhaustive, and there may be exceptions (for example, some companies add sugar to processed fruits for flavor), so always be careful when it matters. But if you go to a restaurant and are just trying to avoid food that is too sweet, this food breakdown can help you succeed.
