MegaChat Is a Browser-Based Encrypted Voice and Video Chat Application.

Mega has been on our radar for safe file storage ever since the file storage phoenix rose from the ashes of MegaUpload. The company has now created MegaChat, which markets itself as a secure alternative to Skype, offering browser-based voice and video chat.

The service is clearly intended for those who care about security. As The Verge rightly points out, Mega’s story of end-to-end encryption hasn’t always been up to industry standards , but it’s probably better than nothing. Mega also offers rewards for anyone who might find security holes at the moment. This is a young beta, but adventure lovers can try it now.

At the moment the service is limited to voice (see above) and video calls. Text chat and group video conferencing will follow later. The beta version is open to the public. All you need to do is sign up for a Mega account using the source link below and add contacts. So far, it looks like it performs quite well as a chat room, although whether or not it is actually as secure as Mega claims remains to be determined.
