Replace Your Broken Chute and Go Back to Shredding
Portable trash cans will wear out over time and can break or clog if you throw out the wrong trash. Dustbin replacement is a simple plumbing installation project that will get your kitchen sink back up and running in no time.
Disconnect the current chute first, then assess what tools you need to remove the pipes. Plastic flare nuts can be turned by hand, but steel ones require a pair of pliers. A plastic tub to collect water and a few rags will also come in handy.
Next, we proceed to disconnecting the water supply from disposal. You will have an outlet line at the bottom, possibly food from another sink and food from the dishwasher.
After all plumbing lines are disconnected, you can remove the debris using a slotted tool (included with the new unit) to twist the drain away from the sink. Then use a screwdriver to remove the old mounting bracket and attach the new one.
Finally, twist to attach the new trash chute to the mounting bracket, reconnect the plumbing, connect it to the waste heat exchanger, and you’re done!
