Learn How to Climb a Rope Like a Fur Seal in This Video

Whether you’re exercising, looking for a good workout, or just looking to get ready, it’s good to know how to climb a rope using as little energy as possible. This video demonstrates several techniques used by the US military.

A video from ITS Tactical explains the three most common techniques you will come across. First, this is a “gym lesson” technique where you clamp the rope between your feet, but it is not ideal as it relies too heavily on upper body strength. The next two techniques are variations on the brake and squat style, which are faster and more efficient in terms of energy use. In this style, you create a small rope shelf that your weight can rest on, and instead of pulling up with your arms, you squat and bring your legs close to you to create the next shelf. It’s a great workout for your core and can also prove to be a valuable skill depending on your lifestyle. You can read more about the methods at the link below.
