Take Some of Your Little One’s New Toys With You Now
You have decided not to overdo gifts with your little one this year. You asked (pleaded? Demanded!) That your family members follow their example. “They are still so young,” you reasoned. You thought they didn’t even * understand * the whole Santa Claus thing. – you exclaimed, – they are happy, playing with a soup pot and a wooden spoon!
Yet here you are, the day after Christmas, drowning in a sea of colorful plastic and soft plush. There are as many buttons, wheels, balls, dolls and animals as the eye can see. It’s all musical, and it’s all tied to packaging with what can only be described as a ridiculous maze of zip ties, packing tape and scissor-resistant rope.
Every distant aunt or college friend has so much shit that you couldn’t even name it if you had to.
Guess what? They can’t either.
The whole day was an overly exciting spot for them. They really enjoyed tearing up the wrapping paper and immediately wanted to take out the one toy from the package that caught their attention the most in the world. Great, get this. Also select a few others to add to the current toy rotation. And then? Pack the rest.
Get them out of sight on a shelf in your closet. Hide them under the covers in the basement. Save up in case you can actually use something new, like on a rainy day or surprise them in the middle of a trip.
Yes, you give them their own toys and they will be just as happy with it as you are.
