Place Royal Icing in Sauce Bottles for Easier Decorating
Decorating Christmas cookies is an activity I desperately want to enjoy, but due to the lack of fine motor skills and the short attention span I find it difficult. Filling – and then using – a pastry bag is pretty awful too. It is impossible to instill artistic flair in these untalented hands, but a squeeze bottle of sauce is much easier to fill and use than a piping bag.
Even if you’ve mastered filling these flimsy bags (a large measuring cup can help), there are still many benefits to grabbing a few pomace bottles from a grocery store in a restaurant . If you have children, for example, I think you will find that plastic bottles, which are easy to hold and squeeze, are much more comfortable for their little hands and develop a sense of coordination. Rigid walls mean they stand on their own, making filling and storage much easier. And while I know that some pastries and pastries are technically reusable, I never had much fun cleaning a bag .
Once filled, it is very easy to control the amount of pressure applied to the squeezed bottle, allowing me to decorate the cookie to the best of my ability (which still doesn’t sound like awesome, but that’s my problem). Squeeze bottles can be used for both piping and pouring, and some even come with tips intact so they can be cut to your desired size. Once you’re all frozen, simply flush any remaining sugar down the drain, then add another delicious liquid (like cocktail syrup, salad dressing, or your favorite sauce) for easy, accurate dosing.
