You may already know that I love to learn new skills, whether it is sewing on a patch on clothes or ripping an apple in half with my bare hands . This is why I love the r / LearnUselessTalents subreddit .

I first discovered this when I searched for an apple splitting video and it was delivered . Other posts vary in usefulness: often it’s just TikTok with something interesting written like “How do you do this?” inquiry. Other times, posts are short videos or detailed guides on how to do cool stuff.

Take this double knot laces trick . The first time you view it, it’s magic. Then you watch it a few more times and you think, “Okay, I can do this.” Then you try it and start wondering if the video is somehow tampered with. But after looking at it maybe twenty times, each time paying attention to different aspects (where is the end of the lace? Which thumb is on top?), I was able to do this trick myself.

Some of the actions are easy once you get the idea, like playing Jingle Bells on a ridge (it should have different lengths of teeth) or convincing people that you have eight fingers . Others are of medium difficulty: how to walk on a moonwalk or create a whirlwind that looks like a tornado underwater .

And then there are those that take longer, but it’s pretty cool to see the trick broken into bite-sized pieces. Take this one-minute explanation of how a person can learn to do somersaults in a properly padded gymnasium. Even if you’re not going to do the tricks yourself, it can be great to watch others learn.
