How to Use 3-Button Navigation With Google Pixel 4 Assistant
Those of you with a somewhat new Android Pixel 4 smartphone may have noticed that Google is forcing you to use gesture navigation to interact with the new version of Google Assistant . It’s not the end of the world, but it can be annoying if you hate swiping instead of hitting the tiny virtual buttons at the bottom of the screen.
It looks like Google is now allowing three-button navigation and Google Assistant to work perfectly together on their Pixel 4 smartphones. It’s unclear if this is a temporary test or a feature that Google plans to launch at some point, but you can try it out now.
To get started, you need a Google app of at least version 10.92.10.29. Even so, it’s possible that you won’t see the changes, so I also recommend signing up for the beta to see if that helps at all.
Once you’ve installed the app, make sure you are using three-button navigation on your device. If you have not set it, open the app “Settings” on your Pixel 4 and click “System”. Tap on Gestures and then System Navigation and switch to the three-button navigation.
If all goes well, you should now be able to invoke Google Assistant by holding the center home button, as you see in this GIF from Reddit user Sharpshooter98b :
We hope Google sticks to this change, for those who would prefer the older style for their Android devices instead of (like Apple’s) gesture navigation.
