How to Watch Live Stream of SpaceX Falcon 9 Blast Over the Atlantic Ocean
SpaceX was expected to conduct an escape test on a Falcon 9 rocket on Saturday, but the event had to be postponed until Sunday “due to poor splashdown and weather to recover.” Instead, the test was pushed back to Sunday and the 6-hour test window will officially open at 8 a.m. ET.
The tests are intended to “demonstrate the ability of the Crew Dragon to safely exit a Falcon 9 rocket in the event of launch failure.” This is how it should look:
If all goes according to plan, the Crew Dragon capsule will be separated from the rocket while it is over the Atlantic Ocean and the parts will be safely parachuted into the water.
The test is to prove that astronauts can be safely thrown from the rocket if problems arise during launch. Ultimately, the crews could travel to the International Space Station on a similar vessel.
The rocket will take off from NASA Kennedy Space Center in Florida, and the rocket will leave the rocket up to 1 minute 30 seconds after the start of the flight. The Falcon 9 is expected to crash over the Atlantic Ocean and the spacecraft is to land by parachute at sea.
NASA will broadcast it all live. It will air at 7:40 am ET, with a post-test press conference scheduled for 9:30 am ET. You can check it out here or in the embedded video below:
