What to Watch on Netflix This Weekend
Netflix needs to understand that we are all watching Oscar nominees in theaters; Why else would they leave us so little decent streaming material to fill our long weekend? Don’t worry – we’ve got you covered. Here are Lifehacker’s picks on what to stream on Netflix every day of your mini break.
Friday January 17th: Watch The Master.
See Paul Thomas Anderson’s alleged masterpiece starring pre- Joker Joaquin Phoenix as the aimless guy who gets caught up in L. Ron Hubbard’s esque charismatic leader, played by Philip Seymour Hoffman. It may surprise regular readers of this column that I have never seen this movie, given how relevant it is to my interest in cults and cult bands. Let’s watch this together, okay? I have a feeling that we will love this.
Saturday 18 January: Watch Steve Jobs.
I hate biopic , and if you think long and hard, maybe you do too. But this biopic is written by Aaron Sorkin, who wrote The Social Network and therefore has a track record of successfully rethinking the behind-the-scenes actions of famous techies. Both he and Kate Winslet won a Golden Globe for their work on this film, which also stars Seth Rogen as Steve Wozniak, Sorkin’s To Kill a Mockingbird by Jeff Daniels, Sarah Snook before inheritance, and Michael Fassbender as the man himself. …
Sunday, January 19th: Watch Cheer.
It’s a cheerleading documentary! The chances of either of us being a cheerleader in high school or college are slim; we are mostly house cats and we are not sorry. (If you were a fan, correct me in the comments.) So how can we resist the document about a team trying to win a national title?
Monday 20 January: Watch The King in the Desert on HBO.
Of course, Netflix doesn’t air any Martin Luther King Jr. movies on National Day to celebrate it. Use your parent’s HBO login to watch his life documentary The King in the Desert on HBO Go. If you really insist on watching anything on Netflix, you’ll have to settle for Grace and Frankie’s recently debuted season 6. Then come back and tell me why some people like this show.
