How to Filter YouTube Subscriptions on IOS
The YouTube iOS app is getting an updated Subscription tab that should make it easier to keep track of your favorite channels.
The revamped Subscriptions tab now displays Creator Stories (similar to Snapchat or Instagram posts on YouTube) at the top of the Subscriptions page. Below it you’ll find all of your recent downloads and a new scrollable menu that lets you switch between six different filters. By default, “All” displays all videos and messages from all channels listed in reverse chronological order. The other five include:
- Today (only videos uploaded in the last 24 hours are displayed).
- Continue browsing
- Unattended
- Real
- Posts tab to view the latest text / image posts from authors you follow, which is useful as they can sometimes get lost in the stream of recent video uploads.
Google is notorious for adding new buttons, tabs, and filters to YouTube that should help you find content to watch, but often just add additional barriers between creators and their audience. However, I can see myself using these new subscription filters.
If you are like me, you primarily use the Subscription tab rather than the ever-changing Home tab; this is the best way to see all the latest downloads from the channels you are already subscribed to. However, if you don’t use the Watch Later feature diligently, it’s still easy to lose track of what you watched and what you didn’t watch, so I really want to check out the new filters.
Hopefully this redesign of the subscription page will open soon for both Android and desktops, but iOS users should have access to it today. You may even have one right now – just open YouTube on your iPhone or iPad and hit Subscriptions to check out. If not, try updating the YouTube iOS app via the App Store.
