Travelex Users: Block Your Financial Information Now

If you have used Travelex to exchange currencies, you can keep a close eye on your financial information. The hackers gained access to the Travelex network six months ago, and announced they are holding its $ 6 million ransom of data, according to the BBC .

If paid, the REvil hackers claim they will delete all information, including birth dates and credit card numbers they have taken and retrieve online. If the ransom goes unanswered, they threaten to sell all the information.

Travelex has disabled customer access to its website since December 31st with a “scheduled maintenance” tag . Currency exchange services are still available at physical offices.

“Our investigation to date has shown no evidence that any personal or customer data has been compromised,” the Travelex website said in a statement .

If you have used a credit or debit card on the Travelex website, you can contact your credit card issuer and ask for a replacement. Now is also a good time to make sure fraud alerts are included for all of your financial accounts, and if you haven’t already, consider a full credit freeze .

This will not protect you from the current Travelex situation, but it will help you quickly identify any potential fraud and prevent hackers from opening new lines of credit with your information.
