Always Buy Lemons

I go to grocery stores a lot. At least four times a week, I add a “go to bbiab store” Slack (because I don’t want my colleagues to panic if they can’t grab me, obvious Lifehacker core). I know what I’m talking about when it comes to grocery shopping, and you should listen to me.

If there’s one habit to buy food, I would like to instill in everyone, so it is always to buy some lemons. Is always. Even if you think you have several in the refrigerator, human memory is deeply flawed and probably fewer than you think. So buy at least three more. You really can’t have too much, and if you somehow get an obscene amount of yellow citrus fruits, you can always make lemonade. (I don’t know why anyone would complain about life serving you lemons. I love the handouts!)

We all know lemons are extremely healthy, versatile and cheap ingredient, and it’s better to have excess than to be a fool without one. They are critical in the beverage department. Water and tea are boring without their juice, and cocktails seem incomplete without the oils in the strip of their rind. They are the best finishers. You can decorate any savory dish with a simple squeeze of juice , and their zest can bring balance and nuance to both super-sweet desserts and salty (possibly cheese-rich) salads. If you are tired of trying them (never experienced such emotions), you can clean your kitchen with them . Truly, this is a gift. So buy them every time you shop. (You should probably eat the lime too.)
