How to Turn Multiple Google Home Devices Into a Connected Speaker
At some point, I decided to do my best to use Google Home devices. I love being able to ask what the weather is now, set timers and reminders, and find out how old an actor is just by asking, so much so that almost every room in my house now has a Google Home device. For rooms that don’t have him, the Mini will probably be close enough for him to pick up my voice.
If you, like me, have Google Home devices scattered throughout your home, you can link them together to create a connected speaker. Similar to something like Sonos, you can ask Google to play music upstairs in your house, or if you’re having a party, have all of your home devices pump out the same plugs in every room of your house.
It’s a feature that’s been around for quite some time, but it also seems to surprise anyone who comes to my house and sees it in action. Plus, it’s very easy to customize.
To create an audio group, make sure all of your Google Home devices are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. After that, go to device settings on any of your speakers (click on the speaker and then the gear icon in the upper right corner).
From there, select Groups from the menu that appears. You can select “Create Device Group” to create your own group. You will need to come up with a name there. After that, repeat these steps for any other speakers you want to add to the group, but instead, just tap your group name when you get to that group’s menu, rather than creating a new name.
You can then play music on all of those speakers at the same time by saying, “Ok Google, play [a great song or playlist here] for [the band name you came up with].
