Take Part in This Free Parenting Workshop to Relive Weeks at Home

A week has passed . Schools across the country are closed – some for the remainder of the school year – to help slow the spread of the coronavirus. Parents spent the whole week trying to find work from home, find babysitting or schedule a kind of school day. The victory, mostly intact, seems to come on Friday afternoon. And so I hate to say this, but … this is just the beginning.

Everything we could put together this week should have been good enough. It was a situation that none of us had ever encountered, and we went into survival mode. But as it becomes more and more obvious that this way of coping may well become our new norm for the foreseeable future, we may need a little help to figure out how to work and engage with parents at home all day, every day – and to contain everyone’s anxiety. at the managed level. Luckily, we have help.

The host of my favorite research-based parenting podcast, Your Parenting Mojo , has created a free five-day workshop to provide parents with the resources to lead a life of social distancing, bring peace of mind to the home, and most importantly! keep kids busy. According to Jen Lumanlan’s website , the workshop will help participants:

  • Change your thinking from feeling trapped and helpless to calming and gaining a sense of balance.
  • Give yourself an activity you like to keep the kids busy while you work or play for yourself.
  • Avoid arousal, even if you are locked up with your partner and children.
  • Deal with quarrels between siblings so that they have the tools to solve their own problems.
  • Use your child’s best interests as a starting point for true learning so that time outside of school is not wasted.

The seminar is mainly aimed at parents with children from 3 years old to primary school. But parents of children under the age of 3, Luumanlan says on his website , will still benefit from parts of the workshop that focus on reducing your own anxiety, interacting with a partner, and keeping the kids entertained while at work.

Luhmanlan also released an episode of the podcast on How A Parent Cope With The Coronavirus Pandemic, in which she talks about the differences between fear, worry and anxiety, and why flexible daily routines are probably better for our kids right now than being strict. ” schedule”.

The workshop will start on Monday, March 23rd and will consist of daily emails and live videos that attendees can interact with (or watch later, depending on your schedule). In the meantime, as soon as you sign up for the workshop, she will send you a sample routine that you can work on and adapt to prepare for next week.
