Shaken Campari – the Perfect One-Ingredient Cocktail
There are many ways to enjoy Campari – in the Negroni , with Fernet, with soda and a strip of lemon zest – but none can be as refreshing as Campari on its own, provided you get rid of it entirely.
Nothing demonstrates the power of dissolution and excitement like a shocked Campari. When shaken vigorously with ice, the syrupy, somewhat medicinal liqueur softens, aerates and dilutes to something light, citrusy and balanced.
You can add small accessories like a strip of citrus zest, a little salt, or a teaspoon of fernet, but there is so much to Campari that all it really needs is a good shake. Ice water reveals all that is in the taste, revealing the amaro and letting the scents breathe.
It’s (obviously) very easy to do, and perfect for when your bar cart might look a little sparse. To make it you will need:
- 2 1/2 oz Campari
Pour Campari into a shaker with ice and shake vigorously until the shaker is too cold to hold comfortably. Flip, enjoy, and repeat as needed.
