How to Use the New Google Pixel Rules to Automate Your Noisy Android Device
Google Pixel users will find the new Rules feature added to their devices today . The rules are similar to iOS shortcuts , allowing you to create radio buttons to automatically change settings when you are in certain locations, although Android’s rules for comparison are much more limited to shortcuts. At the moment, you can only configure those rules that will:
- Turn on Do Not Disturb mode.
- Set silent mode for notifications.
- Set your notifications to vibrate.
- Set notifications for the call.
The new Rules menu also has the option to enable rule suggestions based on how you use your phone and change settings – for example, your phone may prompt you to create a rule to turn off notifications outside of your home if it notices that you are regularly turn off the ringer volume when you leave the house.
As for setting up your own rules manually:
- Go to Settings> System> Advanced> Rules (you will need to grant Rules permission to run in the background and make changes to your settings the first time you open the Rules page).
- Click Add Rule.
- Tap Add Wi-Fi Location Network to choose where the settings change will trigger. You can choose between a list of saved networks or find a location using Google Maps search. You can also change the radius around the location.
- Finally, at the bottom of the page, there is an option that allows you to enable push notifications when a rule changes.
- Once you’ve configured everything, click Add at the bottom of the menu to complete the rule setup.
- The rules you create will be listed under Settings> System> Advanced> Rules. You can delete a rule by clicking on the trash can icon next to it.
The new rules menu is included in the latest Google Pixel Feature Drop , which itself is part of the March 2020 Android security patch for Pixel devices. You can download it right now by going to Settings> System> Advanced> System Update.
