How to Finally Turn Off Auto Macro Mode on IPhone 13 Pro
Apple does a nifty trick with the iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max he added a surprisingly good macro mode to the Camera app without even adding a separate macro camera (like Android phones do). The Camera app automatically switches to a cropped version of the ultra wide-angle camera when you get close to a subject. Genius, yes, but also uncontrollable. And that’s what made this feature annoying – if you get close enough to your subject, all you get is macro photography.
Fortunately, Apple has changed its mind by adding a button to the Camera app simply to turn off Macro mode in iOS 15.2. While there are a lot of good things about this update, the feature alone is an excuse enough to push the update button.
How to quickly turn off macro mode in the Camera app
Open the Camera app on your iPhone after updating to iOS 15.2 and zoom in to the subject. You will see the camera view switch and a new yellow tulip icon will appear in the lower left corner of the screen.
This is your new indicator that macro mode is active (works in both photo and video modes). Tap that little tulip icon and macro mode will be turned off. The camera app will switch to wide angle lens.
This feature is only available for iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max. But if you want to try Macro mode on older iPhones, you can use a third-party app called Halide .
How to disable macro mode permanently
Here’s what about the Camera app and its settings; every time you restart it, it resets to defaults. This way, the application will forget that you turned off macro mode the last time you used it. Fortunately, there is a function (confusingly worded) to help you disable Macro Mode permanently.
Select Settings > Camera > Save Settings . Here enable the ” Macro Control ” option. The Save Settings option remembers the last setting and does not reset it every time you reopen the Camera app. You can read more about save options in our guide here .
Now go to the Camera app and when you’re close to your subject, tap the tulip icon to turn off macro mode. The next time you open the Camera app, Macro mode will remain disabled.
How to remove the Macro button (if you want)
This is an option for people who liked things the way they were before the update. If you prefer automatic macro mode and don’t want to see the tulip icon every time it fires, you can turn off the macro control function by going to Settings > Camera > Macro control .
Of course, when you do this, the Macro Control option in the Preserve Settings will also disappear (as the function will revert to its auto-toggling nature).
