How to Install the Best Firefox Extensions on Android
Development of Firefox Preview , an updated Firefox app for Android, has gone smoothly, and one of its best features has received a significant update this week.
Mozilla added browser extension support to Firefox Preview back in February, but you could only install one add-on: uBlock Origin. Mozilla’s latest test builds for Firefox Preview have added five more add-ons to the mobile browser that can be installed from the app’s preferences, and they’re all awesome:
- Dark Reader – Automatically turns on dark mode for (most) websites, even if the page usually doesn’t have one.
- HTTPS Everywhere – Adds HTTPS encryption to websites where possible.
- NoScript – Alerts you to potentially dangerous scripts running on web pages and lets you decide if they will run or not.
- Privacy Badger – blocks internet trackers hidden on the websites you visit.
- Image Search – allows you to select any images you find while browsing and search backwards.
These new additions are available in the latest Firefox Preview developer release. You can try them out beforehand by downloading Nightly Build from Google Play.
While nightly builds are for developers and often suffer from stability issues, downloading them will not overwrite any other Firefox Preview version you have installed. If something doesn’t work, you can simply uninstall the browser and revert to the more stable version of Firefox Preview that you used before. In any case, new add-ons should be available in other versions of the application.
How to install add-ons
- Install the Firefox Preview Nightly build from the Google Play store .
- Once the installation is complete, open Firefox Preview Nightly.
- Click on the three-part “More” icon in the bottom menu.
- Go to Settings, scroll down to the Advanced tab and click Add-ons.
- Click the “+” next to the extensions you want to enable. Wait for them to install.
