Let the Kids Practice the Alphabet With Magnets and Cookies
Toddlers everywhere love two things: playing with the things they’ve taken out of kitchen cabinets and magnets. That’s why, if you have letter magnets and a cookie sheet (plus a Sharpie marker), you have a new activity to keep your little child busy for at least a few minutes.
Busy Toddler’s Susie Ellison on Instagram gives us this idea: write each Sharpie letter on the cookie sheet as close to the size of your magnetic letters as possible. Then hand them a vase full of letters and let them get down to business of matching them.
Bonus points if you sit with them and talk about each letter while they do it; but if you are currently working from home or just need a mental break, ignoring them while you work is also perfectly acceptable.
Allison suggests removing Sharpie with hand sanitizer, which is such a pre-pandemic suggestion. When I originally bookmarked this in February, I set out to test the disinfectant component. But given the fact that all the sanitizer in my community was sold out before I went looking in early March, you better believe that I am rationing one tiny sample-sized bottle for my family of three.
Also, I’m not sure if I would like to risk removing some of the non-stick coating with all this cleaning. So my advice is to flip the baking sheet and write the letters at the bottom. The bottom is the same magnetized and you can wipe it off without delay or leave it for another day.
