Put Rum in Your Capri Sun
Hi guys from the 90s. Last night as I was doing my weekly grocery run, I responded to the sweet, nostalgic siren tune of a bright blue Capri Sun juice box. Later, as I sipped sweet nectar through a tiny bright orange straw, I was transported through time and space to the Raging Waters parking lot in San Dimas, California. When I got back, I knew one thing: this Capri Sun needs rum.
Capri Sun is actually a pretty perfect drink without a taste, and drinking it as a child felt like I imagined sipping a cocktail – indulgent and festive. They weren’t the daily drink option in my house (yell at my enemy, skim milk), but we were allowed to drink them in amusement parks (we always packed lunch to save money), when traveling and hanging out. on the beach.
But now I am an adult and I cannot just ignore the fact that Pacific Cooler flavors are a natural blend of Plantation Stiggins Fancy Pineapple Rum . By combining them into one drink, I simultaneously pay tribute to my inner child and silence my child demons – a clear victory for everyone. It’s sweet, fruity, refreshing, and can be served directly in a sachet. (You can also use the tiny orange straw, but it will only slow you down.)
To make this bev in a pouch, you will need:
- 3 oz Pacific Cooler Capri Sun (or whatever flavor you loved as a kid)
- 2 ounces pineapple rum
- 1/2 ounce lime juice
Cut off the top of the Capri Sun pouch and pour 30 ounces into a cocktail shaker. (Save leftover for next shake.) Add rum and lime juice, then shake with ice until cool. Strain back into the bag, add enough ice to bring the liquid level to the top, garnish with a wedge of lime and drink through an adult straw.
