Watch Jane Goodall and Neil De Grasse Tyson Talk Science, Live
It was a strange few years for science. While the climate change debate has become increasingly political and many elected officials have incited the public to distrust scientific data, now that we are in the midst of a global pandemic, people are looking forward to major scientific discoveries with lightning speed. And then there are those of us who continue to believe in science, research, and the need for empirical evidence. Wherever you hit that spectrum, you’ll probably (hopefully) stay this weekend anyway, so you might be interested in an upcoming science festival and fundraiser called LIVEMEDAID.
What’s this?
Now that scientists and medical experts have become rock stars (and in some cases sex symbols ) of COVID-19, it makes sense that they have their own festival – naturally available live. It’s called LIVEMEDAID , and the proceeds will go to Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) and medical leaders in the global fight against COVID-19.
It’s a pretty stellar cast, starting with headliner Dr. Jane Goodall, an internationally renowned ethologist and conservationist. Other notable researchers on the schedule include:
- Dr. Neil de Grasse Tyson: astrophysicist, cosmologist, planetary scientist and author
- Dr. David Suzuki: environmental activist
- Dr. Wade Davis: Anthropologist, Ethnobotanist, Author, National Geographic Explorer and TED Speaker
- Dr. Paula Botempi: NASA ocean biologist teaching the Earth Sciences module in the NASA Astronaut Training Class.
- Dr. Sara Ives: Netflix Documentary, Pandemic
- Dr. Katherine Heiho: climatologist
- Dr. Isaac Bogokh: infectious disease physician at Toronto General Hospital
- Dr. Anders Tegnell: Swedish national epidemiologist.
There are also music bands including Earth, Wind and Fire, METRIC, Queen + Adam Lambert and Ed Robertson (one of the Barenaked Ladies … a Barenaked Lady?).
How to watch
The event will take place this Saturday, May 9 from 6:00 pm to 11:00 pm ET and will be streamed live on LIVEMEDAID social media channels including Facebook , YouTube and Twitter , as well as www.livemedaid.com .
