How to Enable Facebook’s New Dark Mode on IPhone
The Facebook iOS app is finally getting an official dark mode. Just like dark modes in other Facebook apps – Messenger , Instagram, and Whatsapp – enabling dark mode changes the default white and blue UI of the iOS app to a black and gray theme. And it looks great and should appeal to those of you who are still on your problematic social network.
While Facebook hasn’t officially announced the existence of Dark Mode, it has confirmed that the new Dark Mode is rolling out, so some of you might not be aware that you can access it right now. Here’s how to turn on Facebook dark mode on your iPhone or iPad:
- Open the Facebook app on your iOS device.
- Click the tab “Menu” on the bottom menu.
- Scroll down and click on Privacy & Settings.
- There will be a switch for dark mode here, if you have one. Tap it to enable a new theme.
If you don’t already see the Dark Mode option in the app, you are not alone. Facebook says “only a small percentage” of iOS users have this feature right now. It’s unclear if the new dark mode setting only applies to certain devices and iOS versions. We also don’t know if this setting is enabled on the server side or if you need to update your iOS app first.
I was looking for a new theme on iPhone 7 and iPad Pro (to see if dark mode is also available on iPadOS). None of them had this capability, and there were no pending app updates on either device. New devices may be more likely to go into dark mode sooner, but it looks like this will be another slow rollout of the feature from Facebook. Got to love this.
Be sure to keep the Facebook app up to date and check your Privacy & Security shortcuts periodically – the dark mode toggle is sure to show up at some point.
