Which Tech Companies Support Black Workforce and Diversity?
Since the death of George Floyd, several technology companies have issued statements condemning racism and police brutality and in support of racial justice. But while making statements is a pleasant gesture that makes you feel good, it’s best to demonstrate your commitment with money and hiring methods. After all, in a country where wealth equals power, information about who the company hires and the reasons it financially supports speaks out far louder than tweets.
If you’re wondering which corporations and CEOs are actually making the effort, I encourage you to check and share this report and attached spreadsheet from The Plug. Contributed by Sherrell Dorsey , Grace McFadden and Ashley Stewart with contributions from numerous Twitter users. It lists tech companies that talked about George Floyd, Black Lives Matter, and / or racial justice between May 28-30, with links to each statement on how much money the CEO or company has pledged to support those goals, the latest diversity reports by each listed company, data on the diversity of the company’s employees, and more.
While the spreadsheet is an important resource, it also serves as a reminder that the tech industry as a whole suffers from a major diversity issue .
Many large corporations are not included in the table due to their silence, and only a few of those listed take actions not described in words. This is why this information is important: it helps us support companies that hire and provide equal opportunity to oppressed and underrepresented communities, hold brands accountable for their public stance on racial justice and diversity (or lack thereof), and demand more. speak up and do something to make the lives and livelihoods of blacks important.
