How to Keep Kids From Grabbing Your Hoodie’s Laces
There is nothing that babies love more than grabbing things. And since another thing babies love is holding in their arms, you need to keep an eye on your necklaces, dangling earrings and hoodie ties. Since I am a mother of three who dresses like a 12 year old boy, the only thing I can help with is the drawstring for the sweatshirt.
Yes, the lace can be removed. Fine. Do this and you won’t need this article. But some of us like to wear a drawstring so we can pull off the hood when it gets cold. Or maybe we left the house, and if we pulled out the lace, we would need to find a place protected from children to put it. So how else can you remove the rope from your child’s hands in a semi-permanent and reliable way? Light:
- Tie the two ends into a knot.
- Tie a knot behind your head.
- Tuck the knotted cord under the hood or behind its back.
Now the cord is out of these gripping hands. It also cannot be pulled out, even if a child bumps into your sweatshirt after you take it off. But the hood remains functional and wearable. And the next time you’re not picking up your baby, you can undo the knot and tighten the hoodie if necessary.
My children continued to pull the strings well into early childhood. They finally outgrew this phase, but today I realized that even though my youngest is four, at least one of my favorite sweatshirts still has laces tied behind the hood. Nice hack.
